High School Cheerleading
High school cheerleading is not always less complex. High school cheerleading usually only has two levels, varsity and junior varsity. There are only two categories to high school cheerleading, sideline and competition.
Sideline cheerleaders lead the crowd with cheers and chants. It is their duty to make sure that school spirit stays high. Cheerleaders are also usually put in charge of making sure the crowd stays positive, even if there are bad referees and bad calls. Basically, sideline cheerleaders are there to support their team and help the crowd cheer.
Competition cheer is its own sport. There are large and small squads, tumbling and non-tumbling squads, and different divisions based on being an AA, A, or B school. Competition cheer requires a lot more work than sideline cheer. In competition cheer, you stunt, tumble, cheer, and dance for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Practices are just as long as other sports practices.
